arjuna uvāca: kathaṃ bhīṣmam ahaṃ sāṅkhye droṇaṃ ca madhusūdana
iṣubhiḥ pratiyotsyāmi pūjārhāv arisūdana
Arjuna said: How, Madhusudana, shall I attack Bbishma and Drona with arrows in battle,
they who are worthy of reverence, slayer of foes?
Arjuna said, " O Madhusudhana, how can I fight against persons like Bhishma and Drona, countering them with arrows, when they are fit for worship?
Arjuna said: How, O Madhusudana, shall I fight in battle with arrows against Bhishma
and Drona, who are fit to be worshipped, O destroyer of enemies?
A rjuna said: O slayer of Madhu, how shall I assail in battle with arrows Bhishma
and Dro«a, who are worthy of worship, O slayer of enemies.
Arjuna said: But how can I, in battle, O slayer of Madhu, fight with arrows against
Bhishma and Drona, who are rather worthy to be worshipped, O destroyer of foes!
Arjuna argued: My Lord! How can I, when the battle rages, send an arrow through
Bheeshma and Drona, who should receive my reverence?
Arjuna said: How shall I strike my grandfather, my guru, and all other relatives,
who are worthy of my respect, with arrows in battle, O Krishna?
Arjuna. How can I, in the battle, shoot with shafts On Bhishma, or on Drona-O thou
Chief!-- Both worshipful, both honourable men?
Arjuna said, "How, O slayer of Madhu, can I with arrows contend in battle against
Bhishma and Drona, deserving as they are. O slayer of foes, of worship?"
Arguna said: How, O destroyer of Madhu! shall I encounter with arrows in the battle
Bhîshma and Drona--both, O destroyer of enemies! entitled to reverence?
Arjuna said: How shall I, in battle against Bhlshma and Drona, O M adhusudana, Fight
back with arrows against those who are worthy of respect, O Slayer of the Enemy?
Arjuna said: O Madhusudana! How can I attack with arrows Bhishma and Drona — they
who deserve the deepest reverence, O Conqueror of enemies?
Bhishma was the grandfather and Drona was the teacher of Arjuna. As per the prevailing
family and teacher traditions, Arjuna was not expected to slay both of them in any
