What is the secret to having control over your emotions and achieving mental stability? To solve any problem you have to first find out the cause. Is there anything you can control with one hundred percent confidence? There was a time when kings used to enslave people, while those in power and position used his authority to own slaves and control their lives and actions. They probably enslaved their bodies and duties, but could we say that they managed to enslave their minds also? Human beings are born to be free.
The desire for freedom and autonomy is inherent in your nature. You may listen to something or follow someone, but they are the decisions you make consciously. The power to control is always inside you and that power is always about what you can choose or decide. You may have compulsions, but you have the power to act within those compulsions. As long as you have the control over your thoughts and emotions, you will have the freedom to be yourself. You may live inside a prison, but your mind can be totally free. It is what we learn from great saints and gurus. You will have the greatest freedom if you can free your mind from the external pulls and pressures.
It is possible only by freeing your mind from the dualities. The following verse identifies it and suggests a direct and effective solution for achieving that inner freedom, which is to control your mind and body and become a self-conqueror (jitatmana). "The self-conquered peaceful person is but the Supreme Self. For him cold or heat, happiness or sorrow, respect or disrespect are the same. The Bhagavadgita Free Translation 6.7 by Jayaram V
